The Government Experimental Farm within the Rural Gozo Directorate is situatuated in Xewkija, Gozo. The Section’s perimeter includes fruit orchards, outdoor and protected crop areas, and also space dedicated to livestock, captive breeding and Apiculture. The mission of the centre is agricultural research, innovation, education and dissemination of knowledge. The main research activities include study on protected cropping, fruit culture, integrated pest management, open field crops and various Maltese livestock breeds. The section educates and assists farmers in the production of quality produce while striving to introduce back into the local agriculture sector, local vegetable and fodder varieties and animal breeds which are in danger of dying out.
