The Cultural Heritage Directorate’s main objectives are to ensure the restoration and preservation of all cultural sites falling under the remit of the Ministry for Gozo as well as the promotion of Gozo as a distinct cultural destination. The latter is achieved through the development of a distintive cultural calendar that distinguishes itself through the calibre and diversity of events it supports and promotes. This Directorate is responsible as well for the management of the Ċittadella and its various visitor related amneties such as the Visitor Centre. Furthermore, to ensure the continued appreciation of Gozo’s rich patrimony this Directorate organises regularly informative talks and tour guides, targeting residents and visitors alike.

Cittadella Administration Office
The Ċittadella Administration Office is responsible for the management and upkeep of the Ċittadella. The Office manages the Cittadella Visitors’ Centre, which offers an audio-visual interpretation experience to the visitors. The mission of this office is to conserve and restore this historic monument whilst offering visitors a unique experience.

SPECIAL CONCESSIONS
Free admission to the Ċttadella Visitors’ Centre is given to students, senior citizens and accompanying persons participating in the HM (Heritage Malta) Passport Scheme. Groups by Educational Institutions, Local Councils and registered NGOs are granted free admission to the Ċittadella Visitors’ Centre. These concessions do not apply to organizations with commercial interests.

Restoration Unit
This unit is responsible for the restoration and conservation of those heritage sites falling under the remit of the Ministry for Gozo including the bastions and fortifications of the Ċittadella. The Restoration Unit is also entrusted with the restoration and preservation of the wayside niches, statues and monuments situated around Gozo and Comino.
